Rhinoplasty is one of the most common cosmetic surgical procedures performed in the USA. Just about anything is possible with Beverly Hills rhinoplasty, from increasing or decreasing size, to reshaping the bridge or the tip and decreasing the size of the nostrils. Nasal rhinoplasty is also occasionally used to help relieve sinus and breathing conditions and correct injuries or birth defects. Changing your face is a very big decision, but it is one that inspires new confidence in thousands of people every year.

After finding a surgeon you like and establishing their credentials, you’ll schedule your first Beverly Hills rhinoplasty consultation. The surgeon ought to be familiar with rhinoplasty procedures, and should be willing and able to make personal recommendations based on your facial structure. It helps to bring pictures of nose shapes that you’d like to use for a model.

While there are no legal age restrictions for rhinoplasty, a professional surgeon will strongly encourage young patients to wait until they hit their late teens. Before this age, the nose is not fully developed and facial maturation after rhinoplasty could lead to deformities. The generally accepted age is 16 years old for girls and 18 years old for boys. By then, the facial structure and proportions are considered fully established, making Beverly Hills rhinoplasty a viable option.

After consultation, you will be assigned a pre-operative patient coordinator. They will schedule all of your rhinoplasty lab work and tests and thoroughly go over your preoperative instructions. This is your chance to ask any final questions, about the Beverly Hills rhinoplasty procedure or about the recovery period. Smokers should not smoke for a month before rhinoplasty, and not resume until a month after. Also, certain medications and herbal supplements are prohibited for two weeks before rhinoplasty and two weeks after. It is recommended that patients avoid heavy sun exposure for 2 weeks prior to rhinoplasty and at least 8 weeks afterwards.

It is necessary that you have a responsible adult accompany you the day of your rhinoplasty. It will vary significantly between surgeons, but the average time-frame is 4-5 hours total, for admission, surgery and in-house recovery. Your companion should be available by phone the entire time you are in rhinoplasty and should also be at the hospital to pick you up. Additionally, due to the anesthesia, it is recommended that you have somebody responsible on-hand for a full 24 hours after surgery.

Once rhinoplasty is complete, your doctor will pack your nose with surgical gauze and apply a splint or cast and a “drip bandage” to catch post-operative leakage. It is strongly recommended that you stay upright as much as possible for the first few days after rhinoplasty —use multiple pillows to support yourself while sleeping—and also that you have somebody you don’t mind doing a big favor for later on-hand to change your nasal dressings for approximately 3-4 days. Post-operative patients are encouraged to make a conscious attempt to breath through the mouth for several days after rhinoplasty. The patient can expect a bruised, “puffy” face for 24-48 hours after rhinoplasty. General discomfort is not uncommon, and cold packs or ice are recommended for 72 hours to relieve aching and bring down swelling. Post- rhinoplasty bruising and swelling may not completely disappear for 2-3 weeks. Patients should have an idea of their new look by the first few days after rhinoplasty. Typical procedure is for the doctor to remove the drip bandage after three days and the splint after five days. However, minor swelling could last as long as three months and the healing process leading to up to the final, stabilized result may not be complete until a year or more after the rhinoplasty surgery.

While it may differ between patients, the typical Beverly Hills rhinoplasty healing process follows a basic schedule. It’s up to you how diligently you stick to your surgeon’s post- rhinoplasty instructions, but it is advisable to follow them closely to speed along the recovery process. You should start feeling good 2-3 days after rhinoplasty, but it is strongly advised that that you not return to work/ school for at least five days. Some patients’ procedures don’t require sutures, but if any were used during your rhinoplasty, they should be removed 5-7 days into your recovery. Suffice to say, high impact work-outs and sports are strongly discouraged pending your doctor’s opinion.

Another major responsibility the patient has is to take good care of your nose! This helps the rhinoplasty healing process immeasurably. If possible, avoid sneezing and blowing the nose as much as possible. Try hard not to touch or bump your nose, or any other swollen facial areas, and avoid sun exposure, heavy glasses and sun glasses. Multiple follow-up visits should be scheduled during the post-rhinoplasty months, and any problems or abnormal symptoms should be reported to the doctor’s office.

Complications with rhinoplasty are rare and usually not major. Typical complications include nose bleeds and infections. Occasionally, a second surgery is recommended to further refine the shape or alter a small deformity. Of course, inform your surgeon if you have a history of reactions to anesthesia or any other common drugs.
